Pasta Marinara Near Me

Pasta Marinara Near Me

This Homemade Marinara Sauce is so easy to make and it’s so much better than the bottled stuff! The recipe includes mildly sweet San Marzano tomatoes, chopped onion, an abundance of garlic, fresh basil, as well as rich olive oil and a dab of butter.

What does summer really mean? If you’re lucky, it means you have an abundance of fresh basil growing in your garden so you need to find lots and lots of different things to do with it. I finally have a garden — er, well it’s more of a little box garden but it’s a garden all the same.

So I’ve grown peas, tomatoes, pumpkins, basil, cilantro, oregano, and thyme and I’m still waiting on the green onions and rosemary (those two haven’t thrived like everything else. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I tried to grow way too much in a fairly small space. At least I kept the tomatoes and pumpkins growing elsewhere on their own).

Spaghetti With Marinara

I’ve grown herbs in my windowsill for many years, but they’ve just never thrived the way they do in a garden. I’m loving being able to go out and just snip what I need as it keeps growing!

One of my favorite things to do with fresh basil is make homemade marinara sauce. I fall head of heals for a good marinara sauce and it’s so easy to make a good batch at home from scratch!

I used to go all out and make the fresh tomato marinara sauce. I’d have to boil and peel the fresh tomatoes, then seed them, and then crush them — it was a lengthy, tedious process.

Then I realized the canned San Marzano tomatoes are just as good for marinara sauce, and life got a whole lot easier. Really though, canned tomatoes are where it’s at in my opinion. It’s like how it goes with canned pumpkin — you just get consistent results with the canned San Marzano tomatoes.

This marinara sauce recipe is very easy to prepare, yet the end results are truly so delicious! You’d think with its fairly short list of ingredients it couldn’t be this tasty but oh how it is!

Toss it with pasta, add a fair sprinkling of shredded Parmesan and final touch of fresh basil ribbons and you’ve just reached dinner goals!

Nomato Sauce (tomato Less Marinara)

Just don’t forget the fresh crusty Italian bread of some kind (even if it’s store bought) and some good olive oil and freshly cracked pepper to dip it in. Good carby meals like so are some of my favorite!

You can definitely add ground beef or Italian sausage or even ground turkey to this recipe (about 1 lb total. Brown it first, then simmer with the sauce). If I do add meat, I usually cut the fats in half (1.5 Tbsp butter and 2 Tbsp olive oil).

Yes, homemade marinara sauce freezes incredibly well for up to 3 months. I prefer freezing it in smaller jars so I can thaw exactly what I need in the future. It makes a delicious lunch!

Note: the term “marinara” might be a bit confusing. In Italy we call spaghetti alla marinara only pasta dishes featuring seafood and tomatoes, while marinara sauce is made with canned tomatoes, garlic and oregano and it’s used for pizza.

This super easy recipe calls for basic cupboard staples, but their quality will make the difference! Pasta and canned tomatoes are key ingredients in this dish.

Flavor: a good pinch of chili flakes is a must for me, it adds extra flavor. Plus, if you have some white wine on hand, add a few Tbsps when you add the tomato sauce: it will take the your Italian spaghetti marinara to the next level.

Pasta: you can use any short, large or long pasta shapes that work well to capture the sauce. I love spaghetti, but penne, fusilli, conchiglie work fine. Mini pasta shapes like orzo or even elbow macaroni don’t work well in the recipe.

This recipe is dedicated to Bill and Pauline, the owners of a gorgeous young Golden Retriever called Lucy thatDozer plays with regularly at the beach.

While Dozer and Lucy were playing on the beach, and rather than continuing that weekly routine, I thought I’d just write the recipe out properly for them!!!

While a seafood pasta may sound fancy, in actual fact, this is super fast and easy to make. It really is dinner on the table in 20 minutes, if you can manage boiling the pasta while you make the (very easy) sauce.

Pasta With Marinara Sauce

Mind you, I start with a pre-prepared seafood Marinara mix. Nowadays good seafood stores sell great quality marinara (the fish mongerin Pittwater Place, for those in my area!), a good mix of small prawns/shrimp, pieces of fish, slices of calamari and shelled mussels. And it’s super great value too.

The key to the sauce for this pasta is searing the seafood first, then removing it before proceeding to make the pastasauce. This way, the seafood is not overcooked, and also the sauce benefits from the residual flavour left in the pan after searing the seafood.

I like to make this sauce using tomato passata (pictured above) which is simply pureed plain tomatoes. It’s thicker and smooth, unlike canned crushed tomatoes, so it makes a lovely quick sauce. Nowadays, passata is sold in all major supermarkets here in Australia – in the pasta section – and it costs just a little more than canned tomatoes.

.It sounds fancy, but all it requires is cookingthe pasta in the sauce with somepasta cooking water for a minute or two right before serving.

This is a secret step mastered by all the Italian Nonna’s and proper restaurants around the world that makes all the difference. It’s magic becauseitthickensthe sauceso it clings lusciously to every strand of pasta. Rather than a watery pool of sauce in the bottom of the bowl. 🙂

If you want to get technical, it’s because of the reaction that occurs between the starch in the pasta cooking water and the oil in the sauce. 🙂

I made this yesterday (Tuesday) and bumped into Pauline and Bill at the dog park just after I gave the homeless man a big steaming container of this pasta. The homeless man gave this a big thumbs up. Pauline and Bill politely declined my request for a family photo to include in this post. However, I knowthey’re certainly looking forward to getting their hands on this recipe – written out properly for them!!

PS To bridge the communication gap: “Marinara” to most of the world other than Australia means a tomato pasta sauce. Not to be confused with “Marinara seafood mix” as sold in Australia, being a premix of different types of seafood in bite size pieces. So to Australians, “Spaghetti Marinara” meansa

A classic seafood pasta made with a pre-made seafood marinara mix. This is really simple to make, and the key to this recipe is the step where the pasta is finished cooking in
